One Body, Many Gifts (Oct 7, 2012)

 One Body, Many Gifts

Youth Sunday/World Communion Sunday
October 7, 2012

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
 1 Corinthians 12:1

We opened with this fun and creative Call to Worship by Richard Bott:
I wonder if I am a hand?  Maybe a foot!  How about an aorta. . .or a neuron!
What are you talking about?  You’re a person!
But Paul said that each one of us is part of the body of Christ!  I’m trying to figure out what part I am.  OH NO!  Maybe I’m the appendix!
Every part of the body is important in its own way.  Every part of the body of Christ is important, too!
Even the ear hair?  What about the ear hair?
Even the ear hair!  With different gifts and abilities, with different ways of responding, with different ways of doing what needs to be done, we live out our purpose of being Christ’s body.
What’s that?
To live God’s love!  To share Christ’s hope!  To welcome the community of the Spirit!
So, as part of the Body, we come together –
To worship God!  Alleluia!

Hat props

The youth acted out the story, A Hat for Ivan by Max Lucado using a variety of hat props.  Here's an excerpt:
Listen, Ivan, just because someone gives you a hat, doesn't mean you are supposed to wear it.  They may mean well. but the don't know you. . . Tell me Ivan what do you really love to do?

NY Children Photography

Since it was World Communion Sunday, during Communion we projected images of children from all around the globe who live in New York City from Danny Goldfield's NYChildren Project.
